About The Community League

Built in Kigali.
Made for the game

It started in January 2025 with nine friends on a court in Kimironko, one short of a full run. Everyone who shows up gets a game.

Why we started

Who’s got next?

In January 2025 we got nine friends to a court in Kimironko. Nine is one short of a full 5v5, so somebody always sat. We were not building an organization that day. We just wanted somewhere to play hoops in our free time.

The question at every run was the same one you hear on courts across Kigali. Who’s got next? Ukurikira, roughly “who’s next” in Kinyarwanda, became the name of those open runs and the rule we organize everything around. Everybody gets a turn.

Kigali already has the players. What has been missing is structure: games that start on time, courts that stay open week after week, and somebody keeping the record. That is the work, and reliability comes before everything else we do.
