Disclaimer
Last updated: 26 July 2026
Read this before you play with us. It applies to everyone at a TCL session, including walk-up players at a free Ukurikira run who have not filled in any form.
1. Basketball involves risk
Basketball is a contact sport played fast on a hard surface. Players collide, fall, land badly and get hit by the ball. Injuries happen, from sprained ankles and jammed fingers to broken bones, head injuries and, in rare cases, serious, permanent or fatal harm. Outdoor courts add heat, sun, dust, rain and uneven ground. No coach, referee or organiser can remove these risks.
2. You play at your own risk
By taking part in any TCL session, program, event or open run, at any venue, indoor or outdoor, you accept these risks and you take part at your own risk. You are responsible for deciding whether you are fit and healthy enough to play. If you have a medical condition, an old injury or any doubt at all, see a doctor before you play, and tell a coach what we should know. Wear proper athletic footwear. Bare feet, sandals and street shoes are not allowed on court.
3. Medical care and insurance
TCL does not provide medical care, medical insurance or accident insurance to participants. We are not a medical service. Our staff may help you get assistance in an emergency, and where you have signed a form authorising us to do so, we may arrange treatment on your behalf. That help does not make us responsible for your treatment or your costs. We strongly recommend that every participant, and every parent of a young participant, carries their own medical or accident cover. Any medical bill that follows an injury at a TCL session is yours.
4. Parents and guardians
If you send or bring a young person to a TCL session, you accept the risks in this page on their behalf. You are responsible for deciding whether your child plays, for their supervision at open sessions that are not coached, and for telling us about any condition, allergy or medication that matters on court. Ukurikira is a free open run at a public court, and it is not a supervised childcare service.
5. Signed forms come first
This page supplements any waiver, release, consent or assumption of risk form you sign for a specific program. It does not replace one, and it does not cut down what you signed. Where a signed form and this page differ, the signed form governs. Forms are signed per season or per program, so the one you signed last season does not carry over to the next one.
6. Venues and facilities
Most courts and venues we use are owned and maintained by other people. TCL does not own or control them and cannot guarantee the condition of a surface, a hoop, lighting, changing rooms or anything else on site. Check the court before you play. If you see something unsafe, tell TCL staff and stay off it.
7. No medical, fitness or legal advice
Nothing on this website or on our social media channels is medical advice, fitness advice or legal advice. Training tips, drills and general content are for information only. Speak to a qualified professional about your own health, training or legal position.
8. Schedules and program information
We work hard to keep our schedule, venues, times and program details correct, and they still change. Sessions get moved, delayed or cancelled because of weather, venue availability, court conditions or things outside our control. Always check our WhatsApp group or social channels before you travel to a session. TCL is not responsible for time, transport costs or other expenses lost because a session changed or did not run.
9. Website availability
We do not promise that this website is always available, error free, or up to date at every moment. It may go down for maintenance or for reasons outside our control.
10. Questions
If anything here is unclear, ask us before you play. See also our Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.
