Site Lead, The House League: Bugesera
Part-time | Bugesera, at Imbuto Hub Bugesera
Reports to: VP of Programming
Open until filled
About The Community League
The Community League (TCL) is a fast-growing Pan-African sports and cultural organisation redefining what grassroots sports can look like. Through our pillars, Ukurikira (free community streetball runs), The REC (structured basketball leagues), The Lab (player training and development), The House League (youth basketball), and Events, we are building a sustainable street-to-elite pipeline for talent, culture, and community across Rwanda and beyond.
The House League is coached youth basketball for ages 6 to 18. There are no tryouts and no cuts, and the one promise we make to families is that everyone gets games.
Bugesera is one of The House League's first two locations, run with Imbuto Foundation at Imbuto Hub Bugesera. The pilot is a short first season that runs mostly on local volunteers. The Site Lead is the person who makes it work on the ground.
Role Overview
The Site Lead runs The House League: Bugesera day to day: every training session, every game day, the local volunteer crew, and the families. You are the paid TCL staff member on site, and you hold the safety call from check-in until the last child has been collected.
You work closely with the head coach. The head coach runs the basketball; you run everything around it. TCL staff in Kigali back you up, but on the day, the site is yours.
This role is built on reliability. If you commit to a session, you are there, on time, every time.
The first contract covers the pilot season only, from 10 November to mid-December 2026. We go over pay in our first conversation.
You are on site for two training sessions a week, Tuesday and Friday from 5PM to 7PM, and every Saturday game day. Game days start at 7:00 and run through the morning. On the last Saturday of the month they move to the afternoon, after Umuganda. Add about an hour a week for results, WhatsApp and planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Be on site for every Tuesday and Friday training session, 5PM to 7PM
- Check children in against the roster. A child whose guardian consent is not complete does not take part
- Make sure every group has enough adults for the children in it, and never fewer than two
- Hold the safety call from check-in until the last child has been collected. No child is ever left at the hub
- Be the first contact for parents' questions and for any concern on the day, and pass concerns to TCL's Safeguarding Lead the same day
- Fill in incident forms. In an emergency, call 112 first, then the child's guardian
- Be the named adult for every game a youth referee works
- On game days, arrive at 7:00, check the court, and make the rain call with the VP of Programming by 7:15
- Run the staff huddle and the day from TCL's game day checklist: check-in, the schedule, the spectator area and first aid
- Photograph every signed scoresheet, enter the results the same day, and post an end-of-day summary for the team
- Find, schedule and lead the local volunteer crew: check-in, scorekeepers, a floater and youth referees
- Keep a list of backup volunteers so no session runs short
- Help Bugesera parents register their children on the TCL website
- Follow up with families whose place is not paid yet
- Run the parent WhatsApp groups for the hub
- You never handle cash. Families pay TCL directly by MoMo
- Walk the hub with TCL staff before the season starts and fill in the location sheet
- Look after TCL's bibs, balls and gear kept at the hub
Who You Are
- Reliable above all. You show up, on time, for every session you commit to
- Calm and firm with children, parents and a busy game day
- Known and trusted in Bugesera, or quick to earn that trust
- Organized enough to keep a volunteer crew showing up week after week
Required
- Are you 18 or over?
- Do you have the right to work in Rwanda?
- Do you live in Bugesera, close enough to reach Imbuto Hub Bugesera for every session?
- Can you hold a working conversation in both Kinyarwanda and English?
- Can you be there every Tuesday and Friday from 5PM to 7PM and every Saturday from 10 November to mid-December 2026?
- Do you have a smartphone with data for WhatsApp, Slack and photos?
- Can you get a Criminal Record Certificate from Irembo before you start? TCL pays for it.
- This role involves carrying equipment and being on your feet for a full session. Can you carry out these tasks, with or without accommodation?
Plus
- You know basketball
- You have run youth sport, community events or school activities
- You have led volunteers
Where it leads
How the pilot goes decides the next step. A strong pilot leads to the Site Lead contract for The House League: Bugesera Season 1, which starts in January 2027. Depending on the person, the role can also grow to cover Ukurikira's weekly run in Bugesera. We will talk about that at interview.
Safeguarding
This role is responsible for children every week. Before you start, you show TCL a Criminal Record Certificate from Irembo, and you renew it every year. You are briefed on The House League's safeguarding rules before your first session, and you follow them at every session. This role is 18 and over.
